Collection of Personal Data
Many web sites will collect the visitor’s personal data. Normally the data include name, telephone number, address and e-mail address…etc.. But only a few web sites will notified the individuals concerned of the matter about the purposes of collecting such data and displayed a Personal Information Collection Statement required by the Ordinance. If they sell the data base to tried-party, it is haven’t any safeguard to the visitors.

Cookies
Some web sites are using “cookies” to get the personal data of the visitor. Cookies are written by a Web site on a visitor’s hard drive. When the visitor returns to that Web site, the Web server requests the ID number from the cookie and uses it to access the data stored by that server on that visitor.
It is provided especially for the web site to search the visitor and can compile a file of personal data of any individuals. The Web site can then use these data to display personalized information, and they may offer this information to advertisers without the knowledge of their visitors.

Search engines
Some of search engines (eg:Google) remember the search data of users according to I.P. address. It is possible for someone to find out the users interests or plans based on the keywords have been searching for on a search engine.

For Individuals: blocked Cookies in the browsers, increase privacy and reduce tracking by advertising; install some software for anti-spyware to protect the computer; delete cookie files after using computer.

Search Engines
For Businesses: Provide more training and make sure all the staff are understand how to protect information.

For Individuals: choose the search engines which can believable or which promise will not keep user data.
